Anxiety Mug – Edvard Munch

About this piece

A group of pale-faced figures presses toward the viewer beneath an intense red and orange sky in Edvard Munch's Anxiety. Painted in 1894, the image shares the emotionally charged landscape and simplified forms associated with several of Munch's best-known works. The faces appear fixed and inward-looking, creating an unsettling contrast with the movement suggested by the crowd. A dark shoreline and distant water anchor the scene, yet the sky seems to dominate everything beneath it.
